Tu B'Shvat/ Israel Day

We started off the day pretending to be an Aviron/ Airplane and flying to Israel.

Song: I wish I were an Aviron, I'd fly across the sea
I'd fly to the land of Israel, and there I'd plant a tree

The Olive tree is growing, the sun outside is glowing
Birds are chirping everywhere, from every roof, from every tree
Tu B'shvat is here, the New Year for the trees (2xs)

We used the seven fruits of Israel to form a fruit man.
The children used a chart to follow and make sure they have all seven fruit.
Pomegranates, dates, figs, olives, grapes, barley, and wheat

The children tasted all seven fruit.
We also made fruit kabobs, using the fruit the children brought to share.
Together we created a pattern to follow.
Skill: Follow the pattern, grasp the fruit and use motor skills to slide and balance on the skewer.
As the children were making their Kabobs they discussed which
fruits are their taste.
One of the manners we practice in our class to keep a positive tone about food, is if someone doesn't like a food
we just say, "It's not my taste."

Then, in honor of Tu B'shvat, we planted
parsley plants.  We water it daily and hopefully it will be grown in time for Passover
and we'll be able to use it
on our Seder Plates.

At then end of our special visit to Israel, we experienced the special material
that Aiden brought back from Israel.
We compared and contrasted the salt rock from the Dead Sea to others.
Used the Shkalim/ Israeli money in our store, and......

...mixed the mud
..and put masks on our hands and face.

We topped off our special day with Aiden's memory book.
