Thankful Centerpieces

Using natural material we collected in the past, the children created centerpieces of thanks for their Thanksgiving tables.

The children drew what they were thankful for.
Sammy: Imma, Abba, Joey, food, Me
Chana: Mommy, Tatty, Mushka, Sheva, Food
Aiden: John, Nadav, Ethan, Apple Picking
Jordan: Mom, Dad, Dian, Ruby
Hannah: Mom, Dad, Ellery, Dog, Nana

Pottery

We used authentic clay to form utensils like the Native Americans.

After leaning how the Native Americans documented in clay, the children used pencils to engrave shapes, decorations, and words.

Latkas

Our latkas came out scrumptious after following the recipe!

First, we peeled the potatoes.  We reviewed safety procedures prior to using the peelers.

The children are getting really good at peeling as we keep bringing them out for different activities.

Next, we carefully grated the potatoes.

After adding eggs and mixing it.  Morah Mimi helped us fry the latkas.  We ate our fresh latkas for lunch!

Native American Head Dress

The children chose from an assortment of feathers.
They really love working with feathers due to its texture and shape.
We used tacky glue which takes a lot of skill and strength to squeeze out.

We discussed patterns...

We left tags with the words Native American and the children copied it.

The children wore their hats throughout the day.

Snack time: eating corn snacks!

Thanksgiving Inspiration

We set up a table of Thanksgiving related foods on the kitchen table.

The storyboard prompted many questions and learning.
Sammy and Hannah set up a Thanksgiving meal for the class!

And our animals!!!
Cornmeal was added to the sensory table.  The children sifted, measured, poured, and "baked" many things!!
Cornmeal is a great sensory tool.  It is very fine and smooth, and so much can be done with it.

It's full!  What can we do??
