Columbus Day

We discussed Columbus Day and it's origin.
After talking about Christopher Columbus and his voyage,
we became fascinated by the oceans and shape of the earth.
Morah Mimi decided to take our shapes we made for Sukkot that ended up a little large and we created the world of oceans.  We used maps and shapes to illustrate  it.
Morah Mimi showed us that we live right by the Atlantic Ocean.
When we go to the beach at the shore, it's at the ocean.
Amanda: I go to the beach.  It's called the beaches.
Sammy: I went to the shore.
Jordan: I also went!
Hannah: I went to the beach with my family.
We created special foam paint to create waves in the ocean.
We will bring them out again to create other land forms.

Later in the week....We had yogurts for snack that were made in Israel.  We found Israel on the map.
...and of course we looked at all the oceans.
After another discussion about the shore and the beach, Chana decided to play with the shells.
Everyone joined in.

Morah Mimi told us that we can try to use the shells to listen to the ocean.
We all tried.  Notice how focused Hannah is while listening.
